In 1980 we took the Ten Commandments off the walls of schools. Someone decided these words of Jesus had become non-essential:
“‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.'”.
“If you want to enter life, keep the commandments,” Jesus told the people. (Matthew 19:17-19)
Yesterday was Pentecost, a day that’s been on the Jewish calendar for a long time. It was the day Moses gave the Ten Commandments to the people, and in the New Covenant, the day the Holy Spirit descended on believers.
It’s a day of alignment with the ways of God.
No wonder hell broke loose. Even the sacred ground of St. John’s church was set on fire.
Time to get back to the basics, folks.
Time to get back in alignment.
Time to love our neighbor as ourselves.
It really is that simple, that profound.
Love conquers all.
Our son Sam (pictured above in Africa) knows right from wrong and can explain the issue quite well. Let’s make sure everyone we come in contact with knows we understand our highest calling is to love.
All men are made in the image of God.
Love your neighbor — as yourself.
