A few nights ago I was wrapping presents while Livy’s friends draped themselves on my couch.
“I already got what I wanted for Christmas,” I told them as I tied the bow.
“Really?”
“Really.”
In the midst of Christmas errands the Cowboy had said it like a thought that often runs through his mind.
“You are the woman I will take my last breath with.”
The black rim of his cowboy hat made a silhouette at daylight. My heart melted and sealed warm. For me all became right in the world. I already had what I’ve prayed for this Christmas — and the rest is gravy.
Wishing you the most meaningful gifts this year,
